26 total charges laid against Alberta trucking company and two drivers

An Alberta-based commercial motor vehicle company and two drivers are facing a total of 26 charges after police stopped an unsafe transport twice in one day on HWY 11.

The OPP says last Tuesday around 5:00 a.m., Temagami OPP received reports of large debris on HWY 11 lanes after a transport lost part of its load. Officers located the vehicle and conducted an inspection.

Police say it revealed several serious safety concerns, including a suspended driver’s licence, brake defects, a trailer licence plate that did not match the vehicle, and a trailer with no functioning brakes. The licence plate was seized, the trailer was deemed unfit, and both the driver and vehicle were placed out of service.

Later that same afternoon, Temiskaming OPP received a traffic complaint about a transport travelling on HWY 11 with a handwritten licence plate. Officers located the vehicle and determined it was the same one stopped earlier in Temagami. Police say though some safety defects had been repaired, the trailer still had no functioning breaks. The vehicle was again placed out of service, and additional charges were laid.
