$50,000 worth of suspected heroin taken off the street in North Bay

Four men, including two from North Bay and two from Toronto are facing charges after city police seized about $50,000 worth of suspected heroin this week.
Late Tuesday night, the North Bay Police Service (NBPS) was conducting a RIDE check with the OPP in the bypass and Frost Street area when a driver failed to produce a valid driver’s licence – and then attempted to leave the area.
Police say a traffic stop was conducted a short distance away and after an investigation nearly 250 grams of suspected heroin and over $5,000 were seized.
Several charges were laid including, possession for the purposes of trafficking counts.
“This incident illustrates how a routine, non-related proactive initiative, such as a RIDE program, can quickly escalate to something more serious,” says Inspector Scott McFarlane. “All NBPS and OPP members involved demonstrated keen observational skills, professionalism, and teamwork, which led to this significant seizure. The great work by all these police officers has kept these drugs from reaching our streets. This has a significant impact on community safety in North Bay and the surrounding area.”
All four men were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
