A homecoming for new city police deputy chief
The North Bay Police Service will have a new Deputy Chief as of Oct. 5.
Officials say Robert ‘Bob’ Norman has been appointed by the board following a comprehensive executive search process.
They say he brings more than 27 years of frontline and community-based policing experience with the Greater Sudbury Police Service to North Bay.
“We have great confidence in Bob Norman and the leadership he will bring to the North Bay Police Service,” says Rich Stivrins, Board Chair. “He brings strong policing experience, but just as importantly, he understands this community and what it means to serve it. We believe he will be a strong addition to our team and a great asset to the people of North Bay.”
Norman has progressed through criminal investigations and senior leadership responsibilities in Patrol Operations, Court Services, Professional Standards, Public Order, organized crime and major investigations.
Born in North Bay and raised in Callander, this marks a return home for the incoming Deputy Chief.
“It is an honour to return home and to have been entrusted with the responsibility of serving as Deputy Chief of the North Bay Police Service,” says Norman. “North Bay and the surrounding area helped shape who I am, and I understand the importance of this Service to the people and communities it serves. I look forward to working alongside Chief Daryl Longworth, the Board, our members and community partners. My commitment is to lead with integrity, support our people, remain accountable for our decisions and contribute to a police service that continues to earn the confidence of the community.”
Chief Daryl Longworth says Norman is an exemplary police leader and is looking forward to working with him.
“He will bring a strong background in governance, accountability, compliance and reporting, and a new perspective to complement our existing command team,” says Longworth. “I’m also looking forward to the mentorship he will provide to our members. Developing and supporting the next generation of police leaders is important to the future of the NBPS, and I know Bob will have a valuable role to play in that.”
Prior to joining Greater Sudbury Police in 1999, Norman was a volunteer firefighter in Callander, then an Ontario Provincial Police Auxiliary Officer at the North Bay Detachment.
