Amelia Chiocchio

Amelia Chiocchio

It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother Amelia Chiocchio with family by her side at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Sunday July 13, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born on January 5, 1932, in Cocullo, Province of L’Aquila, Italy. In 1960 she immigrated to Canada along with her two small daughters to reunite with our loving dad, Salvatore Emilio Chiocchio. They were happily married for 60 years until we lost our precious dad in 2013. She loved and was loved by her children, Silvana Alexander (Bill) and Antonietta Peever (Maurice). Beloved Nonna to Heather Alexander and Meghan Acouri (Marc) and great-Nonna to Theodore and Olivia Acouri. Loving Zia to Giulio (Dimitrinka) of Toronto, Tony, Gianni (Caren) of Calgary, Lidia of Italy, Loretto (Theresa) of St. Catherine’s, Maria, Fabrizio (deceased), Crescenzo (Rosalba) and Anna of Italy and their families. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Salvatore Emilio Chiocchio, her parents Giuseppe and Maria Grazia (Tirabassi) De Bellis.

Mom took pride working in her vegetable and flower gardens sharing the bounty with her family and neighbours. Mom was selfless always putting our family first, especially when it came to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Like most Italian matriarchs Mom was excellent and skilled at making traditional Italian meals. Her home was the gathering spot for holiday feasts, bringing family together for delicious meals and conversation with abundant leftovers going home. Mom’s passion for cooking transcended generations, her granddaughters fondly remember spending fun afternoons with their Nonna making pizza dough, pasta, spaghetti sauces and other food especially her delicious pizzelle and anisette cookies. They learned their love of Italian cooking from her.

We deeply miss our wonderful and beautiful mom, mother-in-law, Nonna, and great-Nonna and Zia. We will remember her as a hard-worker, compassionate and generous lady who was kind, supportive, loving, strong, smart, always giving and expecting nothing in return. We take great comfort that our mom has reunited with our loving dad, the love of her life in heaven. Forever in our hearts.

We would like to thank Dr. Hasspieler, Dr. Bodley, Dr. Leckie, Dr. Tuomi, Dr. Trenker, the VON, Emerg Dept., C3/D3 nurses, Palliative Care Team, and PSWs. A special thanks to Dr. Leckie and Father Francis Chidi Ezenezi.

The family of Amelia will be receiving visitors at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Thursday July 24, 2025, between the hours of 9:00 am to 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church (North Bay) on Thursday July 24, 2025, at 11 am. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum (North Bay). In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Peter the Apostle Church or NBRHC Foundations would be gratefully acknowledged by her family. Online condolences can be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com
