Arson charges laid after domestic violence investigation
A domestic violence investigation and structure fire has led to arson and spousal assault charges for a 60‑year‑old Phelps Township resident.
The North Bay OPP says officers and paramedics were called to a report of a domestic assault in progress at a North River Road home in Phelps Township just before 5:30 pm on Friday, March 20.
They say a second call from the victim reported the residence was on fire, with the Phelps Volunteer Fire Department dispatched.
The victim was confirmed to be safely out of the residence and when officers arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.
Police say the accused later surrendered to them after leaving an outbuilding on the property.
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on March 23, 2026.
The investigation continues.
