Attempted Kidnapping Investigation

Ontario Provincial Police in Kirkland Lake have charged a Bonfield resident after investigating an attempted child abduction.

The OPP says officers responded just after 12:30 pm last Thursday to a parking lot of a store on Government Road in Kirkland Lake.

They say it was reported a person approached a mother and child and attempted to get into the vehicle the child was in.

Police say the mother was able to secure the vehicle door, preventing entry, and the suspect fled the scene.

A person was located nearby and arrested.

A 38-year-old woman from Bonfield is charged with abduction of person under 14 and resist peace officer.

The accused had a court appearance on Friday.
