Bait Bike is Back Local Male Arrested

The North Bay Police Service’s Bait Bike Initiative is once again proving effective after a quick arrest made during a recent deployment.

On Thursday, July 14, 2025, patrol officers arrested a 37-year-old North Bay man after he attempted to steal a bait bicycle strategically placed in the downtown core.

“The bait bike initiative is just one of the ways we're working to prevent property crime and hold offenders accountable,” said A/Deputy Chief Warner. “Bike theft might seem like a minor offence to some, but for the person who loses their only mode of transportation, it can be a major disruption. Whether it’s a child who’s lost a birthday gift, a competitive athlete who’s made a serious investment, or someone who simply needs their bike to get to work. With targeted initiatives like this, we’re sending a clear message: if you steal in our community, you will be caught.”

The Bait Bike Initiative was originally launched in the fall of 2023 and continues to be successfully used throughout the year in areas identified through ongoing analysis and community reports.

NBPS encourages the public to report suspicious activity and always lock up their bikes.

NBPS also encourages all cyclists to register their bicycles through the 529 Garage bike registry https://project529.com/garage to help protect their property and improve the chances of recovery in the event of theft.
