Butterfly release brings mixed emotions

Butterfly release brings mixed emotions

By Richard Coffin

A shared celebration of remembrance, hope, compassion and connection is lined up for the waterfront this weekend.

The Near North Palliative Care Network (NNPCN) is hosting its 17th annual Butterfly Release at the Kiwanis Bandshell on Saturday, from 11 am to 2 pm.

Officials say it has become a cherished event across Nipissing and East Parry Sound, offering people an opportunity to honour loved ones, reflect on treasured memories, and celebrate life in a peaceful and uplifting setting.

“The release represents transformation and represents our feelings for those that we have lost,” says Lauralea Eldridge, Communications and Public Relations Coordinator. “There can be mixed emotions. It’s quite a beautiful event.”

Live music at this year’s event includes performances by Lynn Blunt, Rose-Erin Stokes, Silver Lining, and Josh Dimmel.

There’s also a community BBQ hosted by the Widdifield Lions Club, local community booths, auctions, raffle prizes, and more.

Butterflies can be reserved by calling 705-497-9239 or by emailing events@nnpcn.com.

They can also be sponsored in person on the day of the event.

All proceeds from the event directly support the Near North Palliative Care Network’s free community programs and services, including:
• Visiting hospice and palliative care support
• Caregiver respite
• Grief and bereavement support
• Senior’s companionship and social isolation support
• Education, workshops, and community outreach initiatives
