Charges laid after January’s double fatal crash in West Nipissing
An 18-year-old North Bay man is facing charges in relation to a double fatal car crash that happened in Sturgeon Falls in January. The OPP says officers responded to the two-vehicle crash on Nipissing St. A passenger in one vehicle, a 62-year-old woman from Sudbury, was pronounced dead. Two other occupants from the vehicle reported minor injuries.
Police say three occupants of the second vehicle were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries, with a fourth, a 15-year-old female from West Nipissing, later pronounced deceased at hospital.
The accused was charged with:
- Dangerous operation causing death – two counts
- Impaired operation causing death – two counts
- Impaired operation causing death, over 80 – two counts
- Dangerous operation causing bodily harm – two counts
- Impaired operation causing bodily harm – two counts
- Impaired operation causing bodily harm, over 80 – two counts
- Drive motor vehicle, perform stunt, excessive speed
- Driver, fail to properly wear seat belt
- Drive while passenger under 16 fails to properly wear a seat belt – two counts
- Red light, fail to stop
- Disobey stop sign, fail to stop
- Novice driver, blood alcohol concentration above zero
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Tuesday, May 7, 2026, in North Bay.
