City creating freshwater pool on Trout Lake

Council is moving forward with the creation of a freshwater pool at the Birchaven Cove on Trout Lake.  

A motion to award a $114,000 contract to install the water feature was approved Tuesday night.  

“By installing an Olympic-sized freshwater pool at Cove Beach we’re maximizing one of the greatest natural assets that we have, that is Trout Lake,” says Councillor Justine Mallah, Chair of Community Services. “[It’s] creating a safe, structured space for swimming, training, outdoor aquatic programming, etc.” 

She says the project opens the door to new opportunities like swimming lessons, aquafit and even outdoor events.  

“All while ensuring that there are no restrictions to boating access which I know was a concern to some citizens who live nearby,” says Mallah.
