City preparing parkette for plaque installation

City preparing parkette for plaque installation

By Richard Coffin

You may notice city crews doing work this week at the downtown parkette along Main Street West, Algonquin Avenue and Cassells Street.

The city says they’re preparing for the installation of a plaque honouring the late George Maroosis, a long-serving former city councillor.

In 2025, council approved naming the parkette ‘The George Maroosis Parkette’, in his honour.

Maroosis passed away in November 2023.

Officials say residents may see crews and equipment in the area while the work is underway.
