City staff to look at off-road vehicle use on the road

By Richard Coffin

Council has directed city staff to report back with recommendations involving off-road vehicle use in North Bay.

They’ll be looking at whether to allow for increased road and highway use in urban and rural sections of the city.

Councillor Mac Bain says there are many new and improved off-road vehicles in the Ontario market, and several communities in the north are allowing them on some, if not all, of their municipal roadways.

“When I go to other communities across Northern Ontario, large and small, these types of vehicles are part of the vehicles you see on the road, almost on a daily basis,” he says.

Bain says he hasn’t decided if he supports increased allowances.

“But, I thought that I would bring this forward to get information from staff to see what it would mean for the City of North Bay, and council could have a discussion.”

Council supported the information-seeking motion on Tuesday night.
