Commercial vehicle driver and company charged by North Bay OPP

North Bay OPP have charged a commercial vehicle driver and the carrier responsible for the vehicle after a traffic complaint on Highway 11.
Provincial police say on Thursday, at approximately 8:50 a.m., the North Bay OPP received complaints regarding a tractor-trailer that was reportedly unable to maintain its lane and was travelling at inconsistent speeds.
It was located by officers and stopped on Highway 11 north of the city.
A detailed inspection was done with the Ministry of Transportation, which police say revealed numerous hours-of-service violations, as well as significant safety defects affecting the vehicle involving the vehicle’s braking system, as well as loose wheel fasteners.
The vehicle was deemed unsafe and removed from service for 72 hours.
A dozen charges were filed against the 29-year-old driver from Alberta, including drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect, drive after 14 hours on duty in a day, insecure load, and more.
An Edmonton-based carrier was also charged with six counts, including fail to ensure performance standards are met, permit operation of unsafe commercial vehicle, and more.
