Lakeshore speed reduction

Council has approved a speed limit reduction involving 60 km/h zones on Lakeshore Drive.

They’ll become 50 km/h after recommended traffic bylaw changes were supported Tuesday night.

“If you do this in conjunction with what the police are doing. They just had an announcement about their radar guns and how they’re going to be more active,” says councillor Tanya Vrebosch. “They do call this the Lakeshore speedway for a reason.  People do speed down it. I’m hoping between this and police enforcement we’ll start to see people slowing down a little bit on Lakeshore Drive.”

Councillor Lana Mitchell, Chair of Infrastructure and Operations, agrees with the move.

“I personally live on Lakeshore Drive and I welcome this recommendation,” she says. “I experience daily the need to move forward with this change and the speeds on Lakeshore Drive, and having a consistent message that people can be following and be held accountable to.”

The 40 km/h Community Safety Zone remains in the area of the Omischl Sports Complex and Sunset Park Public School.
