Council to vote on decommissioning ice operations at West Ferris Arena
With the city’s new community and recreation centre set to open this month, the ice plant at West Ferris Arena could soon be decommissioned.
A motion is coming to council Tuesday night to authorize staff to decommission the ammonia refrigeration and brine systems at the arena.
The work would include safely removing the ammonia and brine, isolating and capping the system.

The motion also says the remainder of the building would be left secured and nonoperational, with only the minimum inspections, utilities, alarms, security and maintenance required until Council determines its future.
WFCU Place, and its two new ice pads, opens on Aug. 21 at the Omischl Sports Complex on Lakeshore Drive.
