Downtown Business Survey Highlights Strong Support for NBPS Storefront

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has released the results of its recent survey of downtown businesses, assessing the NBPS storefront and its impact on community safety. The survey, conducted from October 30 to November 15, 2025, included responses from 47 businesses across a variety of sectors within the downtown core.

2025 Survey Findings

The results indicate that businesses continue to face challenges such as aggressive behaviour, loitering, vandalism or graffiti, and shoplifting. However, respondents noted improvements compared to previous years, particularly in areas such as police visibility, communication with law enforcement, and response times.

Awareness of the police storefront remains high among downtown businesses. While over 55% of respondents reported no direct interaction with police staff, the majority recognized the storefront as a valuable resource contributing to a greater sense of safety in the downtown area.

The survey also highlighted strong community support for the ongoing operation and investment in the police storefront, with 78% of participants expressing support and providing suggestions for its further enhancement.

"We are encouraged by the overwhelming support from the downtown business community for our efforts and for keeping the storefront open,” remarks Chief Daryl Longworth, NBPS. “These insights help us focus our strategies on making downtown North Bay a safer, more welcoming place for everyone. We continue to consult with the community as we set our priorities and determine the return on investments for the funding we receive. "

The NBPS thanks all downtown businesses who participated in the survey and remains committed to ongoing engagement with the community to address concerns and strengthen public safety initiatives.
