Edward Theodore (Ted) Price

Edward Theodore (Ted) Price

March 13, 1931 - July 8, 2025

We are saddened to announce the passing of Ted Price on July 8, 2025 at the age of 94.

Ted was born in Bolivia to Canadian parents Robert and Irene Price.  His family moved to Ontario when he was a toddler, and growing up he lived in Caledonia, Niagara Falls and Hanover, where he met Grace Weber, the love of his life.  He and Grace married in 1955 and spent 69 years of marriage building a family and life together.

Ted graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph in 1954 and soon thereafter became qualified to teach in secondary schools.  He taught at Appleby College in Oakville, then at Milton District High School. In 1965, he and Grace moved their family to North Bay, where he became the first head of the Science Department at Widdifield Secondary School. He taught Physics and other Science courses, remaining at Widdifield until he retired in 1986. He always enjoyed seeing former students and colleagues and hearing their news.

In addition to teaching, Ted had many interests.  He loved music and sang tenor in various choirs over the years. He attended many musical and theatre productions and supported local arts organizations.  His workshop, extensive tool collection and handyman skills were put to good use renovating the family home and helping out with various projects at the homes of his children.  He also read a lot, enjoyed woodcarving, and for many years he made wine, which he happily shared with others.

Ted loved the outdoors and spent much time exploring green spaces in the area.  An avid fisherman, he tied flies and often took his fishing gear along on the many canoeing adventures he shared with Grace. He was very environmentally conscious and became involved in several organizations related to nature and the environment.

An intelligent man, Ted was also curious, principled, generous and had a keen sense of humour.  He enjoyed gatherings of family and friends and spent many hours at the dinner table sharing stories and discussing politics and current events.  Proud of his family, he used his photography expertise to document the events and achievements of his children and grandchildren, with their photos always on display.  He also loved to photograph flora and fauna and had photo albums dedicated to pictures of Grace’s gardening success.

Ted is predeceased by his wife Grace, daughter Margot Lloyd (Glyn Lloyd, remarried to Nancy Monteith), grandson Nate Sinclair, brother Bob and sister-in-law Edna Price.

He is survived by his children, James Price (Ruth), Laura Sinclair (Rod), and Tanya McCubbin.

Grampy Ted was a proud grandfather and will be missed by grandchildren Hayden Price, Emily Yates (David), Malcolm McCubbin (Jessica Desrochers), Hudson McCubbin (Danyelle Duckett) (and their father, Robert McCubbin), Drew Sinclair, and great-granddaughter, Aurora Yates.

Ted will also be missed by sisters-in-law Shirley Mercey and Sharon Feltis, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cassellholme for their kind and compassionate care over the past few months, as well as the staff at North Bay Regional Health Centre (especially those at Cedar Lodge) for the excellent care he received for several months prior to that.

Visitation at Hillside Funeral Services will be on Thanksgiving Weekend: Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to please consider donating to the North Bay Symphony, Friends of Laurier Woods , or a charity of your choice.
