Evelyn Wandinger (nee Kretschmer)

It is with heavy saddened hearts that we announce that Evelyn Wandinger (nee Kretschmer), age 92 years of age, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family at North Bay Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Evelyn was the loving mother of Angela (Jason Whiteley) and Oma of Walker and Willow. Loving daughter of Richard and Berta Kretschmer (nee Strauss) and dear sister of Horst and Dieter Kretschmer and the late Ingrid Beiler of Germany; and is survived by many nieces and nephews.  

A remarkable lady that epitomized perseverance, courage and unconditional love. Evelyn was born in Germany and survived World War 2 with her mother and younger siblings. After the war, Evelyn as a young lady left Germany and her family and emigrated to Canada to learn English and provide for herself a better life. Her early life in Canada had Evelyn working many jobs throughout Canada including a career at Canada Post and as a small business owner. As a young mother Evelyn was widowed; on her own she raised the love of her life, her best friend, her “Spatze” Angela. 

Evelyn's trials and tribulations made her live a life characterized by hard work, quiet yet stubborn strength, and an unwavering devotion to her family. Throughout all of life's challenges and hardships she endured, she had a heart of gold. Evelyn led a mostly private life but touched many. The most remarkable gift that Evelyn (Oma) gave was her love for nature, animals and her incredible and unwavering love for Angela and her cherished grandchildren Walker and Willow (her munchkins).

 A private family interment will be taking place Friday, September 25, 2026. Arrangements entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home.
