The Parry Sound District Paramedic Service is getting a new home in South River.

The Village and Paramedic Service have announced a new long-term lease agreement for the former South River Brewery building on Highway 124.

“This agreement reflects our ongoing commitment to community safety, responsible investment, and strong regional partnerships,” says Mayor Jim Coleman. “We are proud to work alongside Parry Sound District Paramedic Service to support the delivery of high-quality emergency medical services in our community.”

Officials say the new facility will offer significantly more space and functionality than the current base, with capacity to accommodate ambulances, emergency response vehicles, support units, and the service’s Mass Casualty Incident Trailer.

They say the site will also support closer collaboration with the Community Paramedicine Program and the Health Sciences North Centre for Prehospital Care, helping strengthen service delivery across the region.

“This new base represents an exciting step forward for our service, our staff, and the communities we serve,” said Matthew Thomas, Manager, Parry Sound District Paramedic Service. “It will provide a modern and functional space that supports our frontline teams, improves operational capacity, and creates new opportunities to work more closely with our partners in Community Paramedicine and prehospital care.”

The Village is thanking FedNor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation for their previous financial contributions toward the redevelopment of the property.

Pending permitting and final preparations, the paramedic service expects to be in the new location early next year.
