Health Unit reports 13 more overdoses, including one death, since alert issued
The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is extending its Community Drug Alert.

Officials say since issuing the alert two weeks ago, 13 more opioid-related overdoses have been reported in the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts, with one death.
That’s on top of the 13 overdoses and three deaths reported between March 30 and April 4.

The Health Unit says specific substances being reported are fentanyl, along with prescription opioids and unknown opioids.
Officials are urging those who use substances to take extra precautions:
• Check your drug with a testing strip, if available.
• Have naloxone on-hand and ensure your kit is well stocked.
• Use in a safe space with people you trust, and who are able to respond with multiple doses of naloxone, if needed.
• If using alone, call or text the National Overdose Response Line at 1-888-688-6677 or have a friend check-in on you.
• If your high feels unusual or if you are with someone who is experiencing an overdose, call 911
You can find drug testing kits at the health unit or participating needle syringe programs.
The alert is being extended until May 5.
