Improving Accessibility for Seniors in Powassan

Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced that the Ontario government is investing $45,270 through the Enhanced Access to Spaces for Everyone (EASE) Grant to the Municipality of Powassan to reduce barriers to recreation for seniors, people with disabilities, and isolated residents. The municipality’s project will involve the installation of AODA compliant steps at their public pool, mobi mats to provide access to the park, pool, and lake, and placement of accessible picnic tables within their parks.

“The Enhanced Access to Spaces for Everyone Grant funds projects that improve accessibility and support active lifestyles for people with disabilities and older adults,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “This project will enhance Powassan’s outdoor public spaces, making them more accessible and ensuring that everyone in the community can live a more active, healthy, safe, and socially connected life.”

Through the EASE Grant, municipalities, non-profit organizations, and Indigenous communities can receive up to $60,000 for projects that focus on improving accessibility. This includes upgrading building entryways, adding ramps and elevators, and leveling sidewalks and parking areas. The grant also supports adding accessible washrooms and signage, removing barriers and making community spaces more inclusive.
