Increased military traffic possible on area highways

By Richard Coffin

You may notice an increase in military traffic in the area this weekend and next.

Army Reserve personnel from 33 Canadian Brigade Group are conducting transport and supply convoys as part of a major simulated combat training event in Petawawa.

Various units from multiple Ontario communities, including North Bay, Sudbury and the Soo, are travelling to and from the exercise.

Officials say the convoys will transport approximately 300 soldiers and their equipment in Canadian Armed Forces vehicles and buses.

They add participating personnel will conduct planned, short stops along the routes, stopping for rest, fuel, and scheduled maintenance.

Soldiers will not carry any weapons or ammunition while making public stops.
