Irene May (nee Labelle)

Irene May (nee Labelle) Guppy passed away in her home city of North Bay on July 30th, 2025, at the age of 92 after a long battle with cancer.
Predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Robert “Alec” Guppy, she was the dearly loved mother to Steven Guppy, David Guppy (Leanne), and Susan Pittman-Kangas (Allan). Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Scott (Jenn), Krista (Nathan), Chris (Lindsay), Kevin (Monica), Jordan (Patti) and her memory will live on in her seven great-grandchildren Hudson, Brynlee, Josh, Grace, Emma, Ty and Taya. Irene was predeceased by her siblings Bob Labelle (late Glenda), Florence Cote (late Armand) and her parents Peter Labelle and Sadie (nee Moore) Labelle.
Irene understood that family, above all else, is the only thing that truly matters. A homemaker, Irene was the cornerstone of her loving family, from her commitment to taking care of the love of her life, never wavering even in the most difficult of times, to overcoming great distances so her family members knew that she would always be there for them. She was kind, loving, caring, loyal and brutally honest, a constant reminder for those around her to find joy in life’s simplest pleasures.
Irene, translated from the Greek word Eirene, means peace, and while we are never going to be ready to say goodbye, our hearts are full knowing that she is finally at peace, reunited and forever dancing with her true soulmate to “can’t help falling in love with you”. “Alec has come to get her”.
As per Irene’s wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will be receiving visitors at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on August 20th, visitation at 11:00, service at 12:00 followed by lunch. If desired, donations to the YMCA (North Bay) or the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged by her family.
