Jacqueline “Lindy” Bonell

Jacqueline “Lindy” Bonell

Jacqueline “Lindy” Bonell (who would be quick to tell you never to call her Jacqueline), passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. Beloved wife of 67 years to Peter, and cherished mother of Bonnie-Sue (Bob), Virginia (Denis), Dean (Lesley), and Brian (Stacey). Proud “Gram” to Darlene, Eric, Liana (Trevor), Andrea (Liam), Stuart (Sarah), Jaime (Brad), and Sheldon (Kaylyn). Adored “Grandma Great/ GG” to Carson, Kahlia, Jaxon, Blake, Torin, and a baby girl who is on the way. Predeceased by her parents George and Agnes Trott, and sister/pen pal, Joan Secord. Loving aunt to Christopher (Jen), Shayne (John), and Jonathan (Nadine).

Known to all as Lindy, she was devoted to her family, who were always at the centre of her world. Admired and revered for her strong principles and quick wit, she never hesitated to speak her mind, and no one ever dared to argue with her. Her determination and stubbornness were a testament to her character, guiding her to accomplish much throughout her life.

Though humble about her many talents, Lindy was truly remarkable. She was an avid distance swimmer, a gifted pianist, a talented artist and once even taught a monkey to paint, earning a photo-op in the newspaper! Earlier in life, she worked at the legendary Bigwin Inn, where she made many cherished memories. She spoke fondly about her time there and especially treasured and displayed her small collection of keepsakes in her hutch.

In 1954, Lindy met the love of her life, Peter, at the Balmy Beach Canoe Club on the shores of Lake Ontario. After a few years of a long-distance relationship while Pete served in the Air Force, they married on February 1st, 1958. Earlier this year, they joyfully celebrated 67 years of marriage, surrounded by the love of their four beautiful children and the family they built together.

As a mother and grandmother, Lindy especially loved Christmastime and enjoyed baking, creating the most perfect dessert platters, and preparing Christmas morning brunch for her family. Her butter tarts were famously delicious, even though she’d shy away from anyone saying so. Each year she made “Christmas crackers” by hand, quietly smiling with pride as she watched everyone open them.

Through her love and presence, Lindy nurtured lasting family traditions and quietly passed her cherished qualities of creativity, practicality, perseverance, artistic and musical talents, and a deep love for animals, onto her children and grandchildren, often without them even knowing. Her elegant handwriting was instantly recognizable, and she was known for sending heartfelt letters and cards to family and friends, just to let them know she was thinking of them, always signing off with her signature phrase: “Love Ya".

So, to our beloved Mom, Gram, Grandma Great/GG, and Auntie, we want to say, “Love Ya”, and thank you for showing us what strength, love, and family truly mean.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Ben Reitzel for his compassion and support, and to the entire health care team for their care and dedication.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Lindy's name to the North Bay Hospital Foundation or All Heart Pet Rescue.
