Krats commits to Concordia-Wisconsin
Powassan Voodoos defenceman Marcus Krats has committed to Concordia University Wisconsin NCAA D III hockey team, the club announced on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Labrador City, NL product has netted 7 goals and 15 assists for 22 points in 26 games this season for the Voodoos.
“It’s extremely exciting, at the start of the season I set some goals for myself and playing hockey at the college level was at the top of that list,” said Krats, who leads the team with two overtime winners.
“I feel like Concordia Wisconsin is the perfect place for me to go to have an opportunity to get a degree and continue to develop as a hockey player and as a man.”
The Concordia Wisconsin Falcons are an NCAA Division III program which plays in the competitive Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) conference.
Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach, was thrilled to get the news about Krats moving on to NCAA D III hockey next fall.
“We are all very excited for Marcus committing to Concordia Wisconsin University just before Christmas, Marcus has worked hard for this opportunity,” said Goulet.
“He has improved his game immensely since joining our team. He is a complete defenceman that has amazing offensive skills and defends the game as well as any Dman I have coached, so well done Marcus.”
The 6’1”, 170 pound blueliner, who visited Concordia University Wisconsin prior to the Christmas break, credits the Voodoos and the NOJHL for helping his development.
“Powassan has given me an opportunity to play at the next level and I wouldn’t have been able to reach this point without the support and coaching from everyone here,” he said.
Krats and the Voodoos are back on the ice to start the second half of the season on Thursday, January 8 as they travel to Sudbury to face the Greater Sudbury Cubs. They are back home on Friday, January 9 as they host the Espanola Paper Kings for a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Powassan Sportsplex.
