Labour dispute takes Alouette school buses off the road

By Richard Coffin

Nipissing-Parry Sound Student Transportation has posted the list of Alouette school buses affected by the start of an operator labour dispute on its website.

Last week, they advised parents and guardians that 1,900 students on 67 routes would be impacted, as of Monday (Feb. 23), if an agreement was not reached.

That includes 50 routes in West Nipissing, seven each in North Bay and Redbridge and three in Parry Sound.

Officials say transportation services and school boards have no influence on contract talks involving bus drivers and their employers, adding they’re hopeful both sides reach an agreement soon.

Student transportation says while they’re working on possible contingency plans, families are responsible for making alternative arrangements for their children to travel to and from school.
