Local talent stands out at Voodoos camp
The Powassan Voodoos completed a competitive training camp over the weekend.
More than 40 players and prospects from across North America attended, including three scrimmages between Team Black and Team White.
It was also the first weekend for new head coach Ty Pracek to check out his new roster.
“I think it was a great start this weekend,” said Pracek, who was hired back in July after Peter Goulet took an assistant coaching position with the Brantford Bulldogs.
“We have got a lot of good young talent, a lot of good returners, and I am super excited to work with this group.”
Chris Dawson, Voodoos GM, was impressed by much of the homegrown talent who hit the ice this weekend.
“There were talented North Bay area players aged 15 to 20 at this weekend's camp, and I was so impressed to see their level of play,” noted Dawson.
“So it’s no coincidence that this may be the most locally orientated Voodoos team we have ever assembled, and kudos go out to all the many Trappers coaches and officials who have created such a tremendous development program right here in the North.”
The Voodoos will continue to prepare for the new season this week and on Saturday, August 29, they will host the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners for a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Powassan Sportsplex.
