Local walk takes place on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Wednesday (Sept. 30) is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Officials say it’s a time to honour the survivors of residential schools, the children who never came home, and all those affected by this part of Canada’s history.
An ‘Every Child Matters’ Walk takes place in North Bay, and everyone is invited to walk in remembrance, solidarity and hope.
It starts at 10 am from Lee Park and continues to the Kiwanis Bandshell with lunch, cultural demonstrations, and more, to follow.
The event is being held in partnership with the North Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre, the North Bay Indigenous Hub, Nipissing First Nation, and the Anishinabek Nation.
Also on Sept. 30, Country 90.5 CFCH and 106.3 Jet FM are broadcasting ‘A Day To Listen’ from 6 am to 6 pm.
This year’s theme is ‘Honouring Truth with Action’ and will be hosted once again by JUNO-Award winning singer & songwriter William Prince.
The City of North Bay raised the ‘Every Child Matters’ flag on Tuesday morning in advance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
