Multiple Charges Laid and Two Arrested
RIDE Patrol Stops 80 Vehicles
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) conducted a RIDE check on November 23 to help deter impaired driving during the holiday season.
During the check, officers stopped approximately 80 vehicles and issued one roadside test.
Officers also observed a vehicle that appeared to be attempting to evade the RIDE location. A traffic stop was conducted, and officers detected a strong odour of cannabis. A Cannabis Control Act (CCA) search located cannabis readily available to the driver, and two occupants were charged under the CCA. Further investigation revealed both the driver and a passenger were in breach of previous release conditions related to drug and weapons offences, resulting in two arrests.
“This arrest shows the great, proactive work our officers do daily to prevent impaired driving. Seeing people drive while consuming cannabis should concern us all,” says A/Deputy Chief Warner. “I encourage everyone to report impaired drivers, use a designated driver, and never ride with someone under the influence. Together, we can keep our roads safer for everyone.”
In total, officers issued:
- 3 Highway Traffic Act violations
- 2 Criminal Code violations
- 2 Cannabis Control Act charges
NBPS will continue conducting RIDE checks throughout the holiday season to help keep roads safe.
Impaired Driving Facts:

Plan ahead. If you drink or use drugs, don’t drive; arrange a safe ride.
