New military housing planned locally and across Canada

The Canadian Forces Housing Agency says it’s one of their largest construction campaigns in the post Second World War era.

The federal government is launching the second phase of military housing expansion involving about 7,500 new residential housing units across Canada, including locally.

Construction of primarily one and two-bedroom unit apartment buildings is planned at all 25 agency locations at military bases across the country.

The estimated value of the projects is about $3.74 billion.

Phase two includes 78 units in North Bay.

“Canadian Armed Forces members and their families deserve safe, modern and affordable housing,” says David McGuinty, Minister of National Defence. “This historic expansion is one of the most significant investments in military housing in decades. By building at speed and scale across the country, we are strengthening operational readiness, supporting recruitment and retention, and giving military families the stability they need to thrive.”

The agency is also working with Build Canada Homes to support modern methods of construction, including modular and prefabricated building systems and the use of low‑carbon materials.
