NNDSB passes motion to comply with minister’s directives

The Near North District School says it will comply completely with the Education Minister’s binding directions, within the timelines specified.

This after a governance review of the board and letter from the minister was formally received at a special board meeting this week.

“Be it further resolved that the Board submits three expedited progress reports to demonstrate implementation of these directions,” states the motion supported at the meeting. “Reports must be submitted within 5, 10 and 15 business days. Each report must include details on actions and steps completed to date, the work that remains, and a forward-looking implementation plan for each direction. Each report must include any relevant supporting documentation that demonstrates progress to date.”

The review highlights serious governance and leadership issues — including “an alarming deficit of leadership in the senior administration” and “a dysfunctional Board of trustees incapable or unwilling to carry out its responsibilities”.

Some of the directives include conducting a Director of Education performance appraisal, submitting a professional development plan for all board members, relocating the education director’s office to the main board office on Airport Road, having an external party review human resources practices since 2020, and more.

The situation relates to the delayed opening of a new school in Parry Sound.
