NOJHL names its Rogers 3 Stars of the Week
The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forward Ryan Saginaw (Powassan Voodoos); goaltender Derrick Champagne (Powassan Voodoos) and forward Luc Warner (Hearst Lumberjacks) have been named its Rogers 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending February 1.
Ryan Saginaw, (F) Powassan Voodoos – Leading all NOJHL skaters offensively last week, Saginaw collected six points in a pair of Powassan home-ice triumphs.
The 19-year-old from Coraopolis, Penn., had a personal single-game high four goals, including notching the eventual game-winner Saturday, to go with a pair of assists in wins over Timmins and Blind River.
Coming out of the Pittsburgh Predators U18 AAA system, Saginaw is currently riding a 10-game point streak and has moved into eighth spot in NOJHL scoring with 57 points, on 27 tallies and 30 helpers, through 38 match-ups.
Derrick Champagne, (G) Powassan Voodoos – The 20-year-old netminder from Greely, Ont., posted back-to-back victories for the Voodoos in earning decisions versus the Rock and Beavers.
In all, Champagne supplied a 1.00 goals-against average to go with a .966 save percentage last week.
Playing his minor hockey previously in the Gloucester Rangers program, Champagne shares the league lead in wins on the season with 15, while holding down fourth spot in GAA at 2.70. His .920 save mark is second-best in the league and his three shutouts tie him for top spot.
Luc Warner, (F) Hearst Lumberjacks – Warner came up clutch for the Lumberjacks in a couple of road contests for his club during the time frame.
The 20-year-old alumnus of the Toronto Marlboros and St. Andrew’s College organizations, scored in both of Hearst’s results, including providing one in overtime Saturday in Iroquois Falls Saturday evening. He also found the back of the net once and added an assist in a result in Timmins earlier in the week.
Warner enters the first week of February on an eight-game heater having scored four times and aided on nine others in that span.
