North Bay Granite Club to host Provincial Playdowns January 6th – 11th
Winners will represent Northern Ontario at Scotties & Brier
Curlers from across northern Ontario will be competing in North Bay next month for the chance to represent the region at the national curling championships in 2026. The Northern Ontario Curling Association (NOCA) men’s and women’s provincial playdowns run from January 6th to 11th at the North Bay Granite Club.
The event will feature some of the top curling talent in Northern Ontario and is highlighted by the return of last year’s champions—Team John Epping in the men’s division and Team Krista Scharf in the women’s.
The North Bay Granite Club is well represented with four teams in the mix – including Team Jeff Brown and Team Riley Winters in the men's, and Team Abby Deschene and Team Joanne Forget in the women's.
North Bay Granite Club Manager Laura Johnston says tickets are available for fans to come out and watch some of the best curlers in Northern Ontario. “Full event passes are available for $75—specially priced to honour our 75th anniversary of curling in North Bay,” Johnston says.
“Our club has a proud history of hosting major events, and we are excited to once again showcase our world-class facility, passionate volunteers, and warm community spirit.”
At stake is the opportunity to represent team northern Ontario at the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Mississauga for the winning women’s team, and the winners of the men’s side will compete in the 2026 Montana's Brier in St. Johns.
