North Bay Man Arrested in Animal Cruelty Investigation
North Bay resident George Mannering charged
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) is investigating an incident of animal cruelty that resulted in the death of four kittens. A North Bay man, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
The accused, George Mannering, 36-year-old, male, of, North Bay, has been charged with:
- Four counts of Killing or Injuring Animals
- Fail to Comply with Undertaking
- Two Counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order (separate outstanding warrant)
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 9, 2026, NBPS Patrol Section responded to a report of animal cruelty. The incident occurred in the 1100 block of Cassells Street. Upon arrival, officers located four deceased kittens. Through investigation, the suspect was identified, and subsequently located at a nearby residence and arrested without incident.
The investigation remains ongoing with the assistance of Animal Welfare Services.
Members of the public are reminded to report animals in distress, or suspected cases of abuse or neglect, by contacting the Ontario Animal Protection Call Centre at 1-833-9-ANIMAL (264625).
Call 911 in an emergency when any life, including animals, is in immediate danger.
“We want to thank the public for their assistance, which was instrumental in advancing this investigation,” said A/Insp. Hampel.
The accused was arrested and, following a bail hearing, was remanded into custody pending a future court date.
