NORTH BAY NORDIC SKI CLUB SEASON OPENING

NORTH BAY NORDIC SKI CLUB SEASON OPENING

North Bay Nordic Cross Country Ski Club is excited to announce an early start to the season.  Inner trails are open and groomed with tracks set, and in good early season shape.  The Clubhouse will be open this weekend for rentals, day pass tickets, and hot drink sales.

Early snow, and more importantly cold temperatures, have provided much of the trails’ coverage, but this year the Club has added to the natural snowfall with the use of a recently purchased snowmaking fan gun.

The snowmaking fan gun, which makes artificial snow by combining a mixture of compressed air and high-pressure water is rare to see at nordic ski areas.  The machine-made snow will be used primarily to augment natural snow in the very busy and well used stadium area, and to patch thin or rough spots out on the trails. Club President, Andrew Rees notes that “The new snow gun is a great addition to the club.  Machine made snow is more resilient than natural snow, resistant to temperature fluctuations and rain events, which makes it ideal for establishing an early season base in the stadium and on the trails near the Clubhouse, as well as extending the season”.

Several of the club’s programs have commenced, while others will start up early in the new year. The North Bay Nordic Ski Club was formed nearly 50 years ago by a group of dedicated volunteers, and it continues to be a volunteer run not-for-profit organization.
