Parry Sound’s Megan Oldham is looking to keep the momentum going after winning bronze in women’s slopestyle skiing at the Winter Games in Italy.

The 24-year-old says she’s ‘super excited’ for the Big Air event and is looking to bring the same energy to that competition.

“I have a couple of really cool tricks that I would love to show in Big Air,” says Oldham. “For the time being I’m just taking a couple of days off to rest and try and make sure my body is feeling 100% so I can get up there in Big Air and do my biggest tricks.”

Oldham says she wasn’t hurt too bad after crashing in her second run of the slopestyle event, adding its essentially muscle and back pain.

But she says she was able to get back into the right head space to increase her score and clinch the podium in her third run.

“I just kept telling myself I just have to do one more run, that’s it, just focus on this. You can put all your energy into one more run because that’s all that’s left,” says Oldham. “I just channeled that energy into putting it all on the line.”

These are the second Olympics for Oldham, who says it’s ‘incredible’ to have her family in Italy with her.

“In Beijing it was the COVID games, so I didn’t have my family there,” she says. “Just to have them here supporting me in Livigno has been amazing. I see them up on the big screen when I’m training, at the end of the event, it just brings a smile to me, and it just makes it that much more rewarding.”

She’s also grateful for all the support in the Parry Sound area.

“Thank you to everyone back home,” she says. “We’re such a small community yet we make such loud noise. It’s really awesome to see how it brings everyone together.”

Big Air qualifying takes place on Saturday.
