Province investing $350,000 to help build a lasting space of remembrance in Richmond Hill

The Ontario government is providing $350,000 to the City of Richmond Hill to support the construction of the Flight PS752 Memorial, honouring the victims of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, which was shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on January 8, 2020.

“Ontario is proud to support this important initiative that honours the victims of Flight PS752 while providing a space for reflection and healing,” said the Honourable Graham McGregor, Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. “This memorial is a place to remember the lives lost and to recognize the enduring strength of the families who continue to seek justice and accountability.”

The Flight PS752 Memorial represents a collaboration between the City of Richmond Hill, provincial and federal governments. Construction is set to begin mid-2026 and is expected to be completed in 2027.

Designed by the City of Richmond Hill in partnership with families of the victims, the memorial will feature a series of steel panels and an engraved granite base listing all names, along with accessible pathways and integrated lighting. It will serve as a civic landmark in Richmond Hill's Unity Park, creating a public space that honours the lives lost.

Announced on the sixth anniversary of this tragic loss, the investment reflects Ontario’s unwavering commitment to stand with Iranian Canadians and all families who lost loved ones on this day, and ensure this tragedy is never forgotten.

• The tragedy took the lives of 176 people, including 55 Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents.
• Forty-four of the victims lived, worked or studied in Richmond Hill, making this the largest single-day loss of life in the city’s history.
• This will be the first memorial for the victims of Flight PS752 in Ontario. The City of Winnipeg unveiled the first permanent public memorial in Canada on July 5, 2025.
• In 2024, the Canadian Government listed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code.
