OPP Golden Helmets to perform in North Bay

By Richard Coffin

The OPP Golden Helmets Motorcycle precision team is coming to North Bay.

They’ll be putting on two performances on the weekend of June 14/15 at Northgate Shopping Centre.

The event is being presented by the Knights of Columbus, which is marking 120 years in North Bay.

The North Bay Pipes and Drums and the Rorab Shrine Cycle, Hillbilly and Klown Units will also be there, with static displays too.

“We are working with the OPP Museum, Friends of the Museum and the OPP Veterans Association to facilitate the arrival of a vintage Harley Motorcycle and a vintage OPP cruiser,” says Ralph Celentano, chair of the Knights 120 anniversary committee.

He says along with the mobile command centre, the local detachment plans to showcase the Snow, All-terrain and Vessel Enforcement (S.A.V.E.) team, K-9 and Aviation units.

Officials say the sixth Knights council in Ontario was formed in North Bay on May 16, 1905. They promote charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.

As a kick-off to its anniversary efforts, officials presented a $10,000 cheque in support of the Pro Cathedral roof replacement, which is underway.

Fundraising efforts also continue.
