Peter Reid Talbot

Peter Reid Talbot

Peter Reid Talbot was born in Montreal on February 7th, 1941, and went to be with his Lord & Saviour on July the 5th, 2025.

Peter was a man of unwavering integrity, creativity, and kindness. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always knew how to make others laugh. Peter also loved a good debate and stood his ground to defend the helpless.

He was preceded in death by his father Allan Douglas Talbot, mother Margaret Ida Reid, brother David Allan Talbot, and sister Lucy Ann Gibson (Keith).

He leaves a huge void in the life of his wife Rachelle (nee Shank). They met 49 years ago and 2025 was a milestone year for them. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on February 2nd, renewed their vows on April 24th and celebrated the 25th anniversary of their profession of faith in Baptism in Spencer, TN on July 4th. They often sang “On the Far Side Banks of Jordan” for their friends, and that promise holds true for them today.

Together, they unconditionally loved, encouraged, and supported each other’s children. Peter is survived by his sons David Talbot (Emily), Nashville, TN, Steve Talbot, Ottawa, and Robert (Katsue) Doha, Qatar, and their mother Lorna. He is also survived by his stepdaughter Ginette Roberge (Luc Burton), and stepson Marc Roberge (Peggy Thompson), all of Sturgeon Falls.

He will be missed by his grandchildren, Jennifer Talbot, (Taylor Patterson), London, William (Billy) Talbot, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Saya Talbot, Eindhoven, Netherlands; step granddaughters Kiana Burton, Sturgeon Falls, and Michelle and Nina Vincent of Verner; and great granddaughters Sophia and Evalina Patterson, London.

Peter will be fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law Colette Viens (Robert), Micheline Marleau (Armand) and brothers-in-law Gaetan Shank (Nicole) Sudbury, Michel Shank (Diane) and Yvon Shank (Louise).

He was blessed with many nieces and nephews. Peter’s greatest joy was following his great nephew Loïc’s hockey games. When he became unable to attend in person, Loïc’s grandpa Yvon set livestream on his tv so he could watch from the comfort of his living room.

The DASH between his birth in 1941 and his passing in 2025 is a colorful woven tapestry of a life well lived. Peter first knew his father at the tender age of four and a half years old, when he returned from serving in World War II.

He and his brother were passionate about country and bluegrass music and spent hours listening to WSM on the radio. They both played stringed instruments at an early age, and their music passion is still a strong family tradition.

In their teens, Peter, and his brother both played hockey while attending Lachine High School. Peter went on to play for the Lachine Maroons, which was the farm team for the Montreal Canadiens. His proudest moments were when he had the opportunity to play with Yvan Cournoyer.

When his brother passed away in 1958, Peter went to New York to study Terminal Forestry at Paul Smith’s College of Arts and Sciences. He worked for Domtar Woodlands, Staniforth Lumber & Veneer Limited, Canadian Morbark, and Cardinal Sawmill Equipment. In 1987 Peter and Rachelle formed 40th and Plum Woodworking, manufacturing reproduction screen doors. In 1996, the company received the Eastern Ontario Business Success Story Award in recognition of its innovative and patented solid wood store fixtures, featured in many retail locations throughout North America. They were able to work together at something they loved to do in a positive environment and remove the myth that married couples cannot work together successfully.

Peter was active at Laurel Creek Baptist Church in Rock Island, TN. He played one of the wisemen in Christmas plays, led bible study, and worked Vacation Bible School every year. He was a member of the Gideons Sparta camp and volunteered with Rachelle on the Tennessee Disaster Relief Team.

Peter was a bluegrass purist, and was very grateful for his Sturgeon Falls buddies, Reg Piper, Leo and Conrad Lefebvre, who came over to play bluegrass, tackle snow removal, cut the grass or whatever else he needed help with. Rachelle would join the jam sessions on her days off.

The family would like to thank the following for their unwavering support, kindness, and compassion: ambulance paramedics; North Bay Regional Hospital – Emergency Department Staff, ambulatory overflow, floor D3; Marina Point; Ontario Health at Home, PSWs and paramedics. Their kindness and wonderful care knew no boundaries and they all made the last 35 days of his life more bearable.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Saturday August 23rd, at 2:00 PM at Kipling Baptist Church, at 201 Kipling Road Warren ON.

The Marina Point family are invited to attend a gathering in the Great Activity Lounge GAL at 7:00 PM on July 16th.

In lieu of flowers, buy someone you love a treat, or your special friend a flower, in his memory.

We are forever grateful for the love and joy Peter brought into our lives and his legacy of positive values and actions will continue to inspire us. The greatest love of all, is found in John 3:16.
