It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father Philippe Bessette. After a long battle with cancer at the age of 86 Phil passed away peacefully on July 12th  at the Serenity Hospice of North Bay with his loving family by his side.

He was the loving husband to the late Denise (Boileau) Bessette for the last 65 years of marriage.

He was a dedicated and devoted family man proud father to six beautiful girls. Joanne Rochon (André), (predeceased) Christine Thomas ( Richard), Rose-Marie Wittenberg (Gary Tyo),(predeceased) Monique Barbe (Yvon), Roxanne Gauthier (Tim), Sandy Filiatrault (Alain). Dearest grandpa to 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who he enjoyed spending time with and treasured each and every day.

Dad will be truly missed by his living sister Lillianne Bergeron (Rolland deceased) and reunited with his predeceased parents Florida (Turgeon) and George Bessette ,and his 8 siblings David , Ida Dégagné (Aurel), Alcide (Yollande), Pauline Epps (Don), Maurice (Dorothy),Patrick and Fernand.

Our father came from a large family from Astorville where he enjoyed the farm life working at a young age at his dad’s sawmill.

After meeting the love of is life Denise, he began a long career in flooring and carpet installation. Dad worked for many local businesses in North Bay for many years such as Broadloom, Stradwicks, Lakeview builders, Rug-A-Roo and his own business Phil’s Carpet Installation. He instilled a hard work ethic to all his daughters who became dedicated assistants over the years.

Upon his retirement, Dad was able to follow a few of his passions that included wood working, fishing, camping, boating, horse shoes, waterfront walks and especially many late nights of playing cribbage, king in the corner and poker with his family and he loved playing the slots at the casino. He enjoyed riding his scooter in the trails.

All of us enjoyed when he cooked his famous spaghetti, soups and stews.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to many care givers who helped our dad with his illness. Many thanks go out to Care partner nurses and PSW and Paramed PSW, Smile program ( meals on wheels), Deans pharmacy staff for all their advice and medical help and all the wonderful staff at Serenity Hospice of North Bay!

An extra special thanks goes out to Dr. Jinnah whose devotion and compassion towards the care of our dad is greatly appreciated!

As per our father wishes a private burial will take place at later date.

The family kindly request that any donations made would be greatly appreciated to the Serenity Hospice of North Bay.
