Police encouraging use of safe exchange zone

City police are warning about a suspected fraud attempt as they investigate an incident related to a marketplace social media post.

The North Bay Police Service says two people were viewing a vehicle listed for sale when they asked for a flashlight.

They say when the owner returned with one, the vehicle would no longer start, and the buyers attempted to negotiate a significantly lower price.

Police say after the vehicle was inspected by a licensed mechanic, it’s suspected it may have been intentionally damaged.

They’re encouraging the community to use the designated Buy & Sell Exchange Zones in front of police headquarters (135 Princess Street West) for safe online-related transactions.

The space is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

NBPS encourages the public to report suspicious activity and remain alert. If you believe you’ve been a victim of a scam, please call 705-497-5555 (option 5) to speak with an officer, or call our non-emergency line 705-472-1234, in an emergency call 911. Your assistance is appreciated and can make a meaningful difference in ongoing investigations.
