Poor air quality statement issued for our area *Update heat warning as well*

Environment Canada’s poor air quality statement continues for the North Bay area and we also now have a heat warning in effect.
The weather agency says smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.
Officials say westerly winds is bringing smoke from forest fires over northern Ontario to the area, causing the air quality to deteriorate.
The poor air quality could persist into Tuesday before improving.
*Heat Warning* – Hot and humid conditions expected Tuesday through Thursday.
Daytime highs of 28 to 31 degrees Celsius and a humidex of 33 to 38.
Overnight lows of 19 to 23 degrees Celsius, providing little relief from the heat.
Hot and humid conditions are expected Tuesday and Wednesday. A slightly cooler airmass is expected to arrive on Thursday bringing an end to this heat event.
“As smoke levels increase, health risks increase. Limit time outdoors,” reads the statement. “Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events. You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough.”
Environment Canada says people more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.
