Province continues ‘connecting links’ in North Bay and Mattawa

The province is investing over $8 million to help support a couple of local road reconstruction projects.
$5 million is going to the City of North Bay for reconstruction of Trout Lake Rd. from Kingsway Ave. to Giroux St. While $3.1 million is going to the Town of Mattawa for work to be done on Main St. from the HWY 17 Roundabout to the Mauril Belanger Bridge.
MPP Vic Fedeli made the announcement this morning, with the funding coming through the Connecting Links program.
“This Connecting Links investment is great news for North Bay,” said Mayor Peter Chirico. “With earlier provincial funding for Trout Lake Road from the Highway 11/17 Bypass to Kingsway Avenue, the City can now complete reconstruction to all the way to Giroux Street. I thank MPP Fedeli and the Province for their continued support. This project will improve safety, support local businesses, and strengthen one of our City’s key transportation corridors.”
In Mattawa meantime, Mayor Raymond Belanger says it’s been 35 years since Main St. received any significant investment.
“This much needed Connecting Link funding is essential and critical to the rebuilding of our downtown core, rehabilitating the street to address public safety, traffic capacity deficiencies and other infrastructure needs,” added Belanger.
The province says a connecting link is a designated municipal road or bridge that connects two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to an international border crossing. This year, the Ontario government is investing over $46 million in 21 projects to repair roads and bridges in 20 municipalities across the province.
