Traffic Enforcement Initiative Results In

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) Traffic Enforcement Unit along with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Enforcement Officers conducted a one-day enforcement blitz on June 30th.While focusing on unsafe vehicles and other driving infractions, the officers laid numerous charges and seized several vehicles.

“The goal is public safety, as traffic collisions are a leading cause of preventable death and injury to both the public and the police,” states Traffic Enforcement Officer, Douglas MacIntosh.

As a result of the one-day blitz, the following charges were laid:

  • 4 Unsafe Vehicles (vehicles towed and plates seized)
  • 1 Careless Driving
  • 1 Stunt Driving (132 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr construction zone – vehicle seized and impounded)
  • 3 Speeding
  • 2 Follow Too Closely
  • 1 Toddler Improperly Secured

Charges were also laid for defective braking system, fail to surrender licence, fail to have insurance card, fail to display two plates, obstruct plate, no mudguards, and tint coating obscuring view.

“This initiative highlights the unsafe vehicles operating on our roadways and highways on a daily basis” said Acting Deputy Chief Jeff Warner “Drivers can expect to see increased enforcement targeting modified vehicles and unsafe vehicles throughout the summer. Vehicles with modifications such as loud exhaust systems, oversized tires and wheels, or excessive tinting will be the focus of enhanced enforcement, in an effort to improve road safety in our community”.

The NBPS will continue to work with the OPP and the MTO as a team in a variety of locations to target drivers operating unsafe vehicles or illegally modified vehicles.
