Stefan Krajci
May 25, 1940 - December 23, 2025
The family of Stefan Krajci announces with heavy hearts his peaceful passing at his home at the age of 85. A respected engineer and committed community leader, Stefan was the beloved husband of Viola for 59 years. He leaves behind a devoted family, including his children Janette (Marc) and Tom (Heather), his sister Gertruda, and four cherished grandchildren: Alexandra, Natasha, Mitchell, and Jacob.
Stefan Krajci was born on May 25, 1940, in the former Czechoslovakia, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors. From a young age, he found joy in mountain climbing, hiking, camping, and skiing—passions that reflected his adventurous spirit and deep appreciation for nature.
In 1968, Stefan immigrated to Canada with Viola and Janette, where he began what would become a long, distinguished, and impactful engineering career. Initially settling in Saskatchewan, where Tom was born, the family later moved to Ontario, first settling in Toronto and then North Bay. Through dedication, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to quality, he established himself as a respected professional in Northern Ontario. Stefan eventually worked at and became the owner of Piotrowski Consultants Limited in North Bay, a mechanical and electrical consulting engineering firm, where his leadership and technical excellence left a lasting mark on the region.
Over the course of his career, Stefan was involved in hundreds of engineering projects throughout Northern Ontario, including hospitals, schools, and industrial facilities. Among his most notable contributions was his involvement in the development of the North Bay Regional Health Centre, a project that stands as a testament to his commitment to serving communities through thoughtful and responsible engineering.
Stefan was well-known for his service through the Rotary Club of Nipissing and his love for the outdoors. Whether enjoying time in nature, especially on Trout Lake, he was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. He and Viola traveled extensively, building a lifetime of beautiful memories, including nine years traveling as snowbirds to their Florida winter home in Lady Lake, where they developed many good friendships. His wit, generosity, kindness, and genuine interest in other people will be missed by all who knew him. He always had time for a conversation, a thoughtful explanation, or a helping hand. His calm presence, wisdom, and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues, clients, and friends alike.
Stefan’s legacy lives on through the structures he designed, the communities he served, and the family he loved deeply. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, engineer, and friend whose life was defined by passion, dedication, and generosity of spirit.
