Successful McHappy Day

Supports Youth and Families in Our Community

Our community is celebrating the success and impact of McHappy Day! More than $35,000 was raised, supporting three worthy charities; One Kids Place (OKP) Children’s Treatment Centre, North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Colin and Vanessa MacWhirter, local owners since December 2019, are humbled by the community’s support. “This year’s McHappy Day was unforgettable,” said Colin. “We raised 92% more than last year – ensuring children and families receive the care they need, when they need it most.” Vanessa echoed the sentiment, adding, “We’re deeply thankful to our hardworking restaurant teams and 100+ dedicated volunteers, the generous sponsors of our Thank You Hearts, the North Bay Battalion for their support, the Ronald McDonald House families who joined us, and of course, our loyal guests. Together, we made it a record-breaking year!”

“McDonald’s donation to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit (CAMHU) ‘Wrap-Around Fund’ supports patients both in their transition from hospital to home, and in their recovery journey in the community.  When youth and their families are requiring the support of CAMHU, their family routines and plans are impacted at a most difficult time in their lives.  With these funds, we can better support patients and their families with the tools and resources needed for their recovery,” said Kelly Smirle, Manager, CAMHU.

“Thanks to this generous donation from McDonald’s, One Kids Place will be able to support young children showing early signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder with our Early Intervention Services. This specialized therapy uses relationship-based, play-centered intervention that fosters motivation, attention, and learning, helping each child reach their fullest potential during this critical stage of development.” said Katharine Strang, Director of Development and Community Relations, One Kids Place.

One Kids Place and NBRHC Foundation are grateful to be included in the McHappy Day initiative and thank the MacWhirter family, the staff at McDonald’s and all the volunteers from McHappy Day. The community support has grown each year, and they congratulate them on their ongoing success and their commitment to our community and our youth.
