Timmins shutout win over Powassan
Turning aside every attempt fired his way, Timmins Rock netminder Ayden Mullen posted his second shutout of the season as part of a 5-0 triumph over the Powassan Voodoos in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League meeting Friday at McIntyre Arena.
The hometown Rock notched the night’s initial marker eight minutes into the matchup when Evan Katic neatly redirected a Jack Quevillon point shot past Voodoos’ starter Derrick Champagne.
With the scoreline remaining the same into the second period, another deft deflection by Timmins saw Kaeden McArthur get a piece of a Matthew Kim blast from up high on the left side that sent the puck high just under the cross bar for his team-leading 33rd tally, a quarter of the way into the session.
Going up by three midway through contest, the Rock’s Maxx Hamelin whipped in a loose puck from the right side into the open corner on Champagne.
More from Timmins in the final minute in the stanza, Lucas Lowe finished off a play put through the crease by Quevillon at 19:27.
In the third, the Rock capped off the scoring in the latter stages when Matteo Paradiso got one by Matthew Lyon of the Voodoos, who had entered in net in relief for his club in the session.
With the goal, Paradiso runs a point streak to six.
The result sees Timmins raise their record to 32-12-0-3 while with the loss, Powassan falls to 30-13-1-2.
