‘Tis the season for Festive R.I.D.E.

Area police services are ramping up efforts to ‘Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere.’

Festive R.I.D.E. stops are taking place Nov. 20 through Jan. 1, 2026.

Police say the annual joint forces campaign helps to promote traffic safety during the holiday season.

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) is launching the provincial campaign with an event Thursday afternoon in North Bay, with various northern police services, including city and provincial police.

Northeast Region OPP reported a drop in impaired driving charges during Festive R.I.D.E. last year, with six in the North Bay Detachment area.

That was down from 26 the year before.

Overall, police say if you indulge in alcohol or drugs don’t drive, make sure you have a designated driver, use public transit, call a friend, family member, taxi or ride share for a ride, or stay overnight.
