Tony Hardy

Tony (Anthony) Hardy, lived his entire life fiercely independent until his peaceful passing in his 101st year at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice on June 18, 2025. He was surrounded by the love of his beautiful wife of 70 years, Mae Hardy, as well as his closest friends.
Tony defined kindness, integrity and honesty.
He was a man of his word and beyond. He was enchanted by the beauty of nature and by all that the world had to offer him. Tony enjoyed recounting his many outdoor fishing and hunting adventures, often with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He was an excellent historian and quite frankly, knew something about everything.
At 17, Tony joined the Royal Canadian Navy and proudly served on Canadian and British warships in the North Atlantic, Arctic and Pacific, returning home in 1946 as a WWII Veteran. He then began a long and fulfilling career at Canadore College. Tony was the second-hired employee, and was instrumental in developing the foundation of the College for the future.
His love of reading was truly astounding and he could quickly, yet passionately, give you a brief synopsis of an entire book. With his signature wit and a healthy dose of charm, all who listened were captivated.
Tony loved and took pride in caring for his immaculate home on Trout Lake, which he shared with Mae. He looked forward to waking up in the morning to a view of the peaceful, beautiful lake. Tony and Mae would sit for hours in their chairs together, overlooking their singular property, usually sharing a cold beer!
A very special thank you to Dr Jinnah and to all the staff at Nipissing Serenity Hospice. Your exceptional kindness, compassion and caring are beyond measure and will always be remembered.
A Celebration of Life will take place Friday July 11th, 2025 from 2-4 pm. at Hillside Funeral Services. A special tribute to Tony will be held at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Nipissing Serenity Hospice would be sincerely appreciated.
