Two Arrested in Drug Trafficking and Weapons
Investigation at a Residence on Trout Lake Road
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has arrested two individuals in connection with a trafficking of controlled substances and weapons investigation at a residence in the 2000 block of Trout Lake Road.
On February 13, at approximately 8:15 p.m., search warrants were executed at two residences as part of a NBPS Street Crime Unit investigation into weapons and the trafficking of controlled substances from the 2000 block of Trout Lake Road. Controlled substances, proceeds of crime, and ammunition were seized, and two individuals were arrested without incident. The investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Tactical Response Unit, OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, and OPP Community Street Crime Unit.
“Collaboration with our policing partners is essential in the fight against drugs and illegal weapons in our community,” says Insp. McFarlane. “By working together, we can disrupt criminal activity, prioritize neighbourhood safety, and ensure that those who break the law are held accountable. This investigation has led to the arrest of two repeat offenders.”
The first accused, Caleb Joseph Laronde, 38-year-old, male, of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl
- Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance – Naloxone
- Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance – Morphine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Two Counts of Breach of Firearm Prohibition Order
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
The second accused, Jacob Burns, 40-year-old, male, of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Three Counts of Breach of Firearm Prohibition Order
Subsequent search led to the seizure of the following items:
- Controlled substances, including:
- 6 grams of Fentanyl
- 50 × 100 mg Hydromorphone pills
- 52.5 × Naloxone pills
- Ammunition:
- 50 rounds of 9mm handgun ammunition
- 4 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition
- $5,245 CAD
The first accused was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing. The second accused was released on an Undertaking, with a court date scheduled for April 7, 2026.
